Key Reasons for Democrats to Vote In The Primary

• California has a “top-two” primary: For most races, the top two vote getters for an office – no matter their party – go on to the General Election. In primary races with multiple candidates, the fewer Democrats who vote, the greater the risk that there will be no Democrat on the ballot in the General Election!
• The County Board of Education race ONLY takes place in the primary. To have a voice in this important race, Democrats must turn out for the primary and vote for the candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party of Orange County.
• In other races, such as for County Board of Supervisors and County District Attorney, a candidate in the primary who gets 50% of the vote plus at least one more vote, wins that race, so that race will NOT be on the ballot in November.
• If no one wins 50% of the vote, the top two vote-getters advance to the November election. Your vote could be the crucial vote in ensuring a candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party of Orange County wins.

Some of the races listed will not occur in Orange County in 2022.

HOW THE LAGUNA WOODS DEMOCRATIC CLUB WILL HELP VOTERS PARTICIPATE IN THE 2022 PRIMARY ELECTION

• In early May as mail-in ballots start to arrive, the Club will deliver door hangers with a list of endorsed candidates for all races in the primary.
• The door hangers along with ads in The Globe identify the nearest Ballot Drop Box and Vote Center locations.
• If a voter needs help getting to a Ballot Drop Box or Vote Center, the door hanger explains how to get that help.
